Department’s history

Since 1994 at the chair scientific works on garden crops, including melons were carried out. In 1995 the name of the department was changed to “Potato and horticultural crops”, the head of the department was appointed V.S.Tyan, who headed the department until 2017. As a result of joint scientific work of “Kazakh Research Institute of Rice Breeding” LLP and “Kazakh Research Institute of Potato Breeding” LLP under the leadership of V.S.Tyan potato Birlik and melon varieties Balsheker, Livera, Nata, Syrdarya were bred. In 2017, Begaliev K.B. was appointed the head of the department.. In 2019, the name of the section was changed to “Vegetable and potato crops”.

Main achievements

In 2018 on PB 019 he carried out projects on “Production and accelerated introduction of unique seeds of new domestic melon varieties by drip irrigation method”, and in 2019 “Introduction and distribution of domestic and foreign Malagasy varieties of pumpkin to commodity producers using innovative technologies in Kyzylorda region”.

Currently in the period 2019-2020 “Introduction and dissemination of potato varieties of Kazakhstani selection to producers using innovative sowing methods in Kyzylorda region” and in the period 2018-2020 according to 267 BNA “Export potential of Kyzylorda region” In the conditions of Kazakhstan’s Aral Sea region, it is guaranteed in quality and meets the world requirements. Adaptation of suitable foreign varieties to local conditions, organisation of the first seed production of popular varieties of foreign selection and development of their varietal technology”.

In 2022 on 019 PB, the project on “Cultivation of garlic crop in Kyzylorda oblast using innovative technologies, introduction and distribution of products to producers” and “Drip irrigation of tomato crops” was implemented.

To date, 267 BNAs for 2024-2026. Scientific research on melon breeding and seed production is underway. Since 2020, together with foreign colleagues FAO and UNDP are the main implementers of the project on dissemination of sugar beet cultivation technology.
