Department’s history

The first heads of the Seed Production Department were: Hegay Sergey, Shakiev A.A., Zharlygasov. From 2008 to 2019, K. Bakiruly held the position of Head of the Department. From 2019-2021 the position of the Head of “Rice Breeding and Seed Production Department of rice rotations” was held by T.E. Natishaev, A.I. Kurbanbaev and S.N Botaev. At present, A.E. Zhalbyrov holds the position of the head of seed breeding department “Rice and rice crop rotations”.

Main directions of researchThe task of the Seed Production Department is to develop and improve the technology of production of high quality rice seeds, primary seed production of promising and approved varieties. Research of the department is aimed at improvement of existing and development of new methods of selection in primary seed production links, contributing to the improvement of sowing qualities of seeds.

Research of the department is directed on improvement of existing methods of selection and development of new methods at initial stages of seed production, contributing to improvement of seed sowing quality, study of seed biology and their damage at different methods of harvesting. Research is carried out on the selection of optimal forms of division in the construction of nurseries.

Service provided by the department

According to the results of the research a scientifically substantiated term of salinity process of rice varieties zoned for production is proposed and agrotechnically effective ways of obtaining highly productive seeds in specially specialised seed multiplication farms are developed.

It is possible to save 100-150 kg of seeds per hectare, and the rate of seed multiplication will increase up to 2 times when using the technology of seed multiplication by spikelets and seedling rice seedling methods. And when using the minimum technology, fuel and oil consumption is reduced by 85%, working time is reduced by 80%, and the efficiency of rapid development of innovative rice varieties is increased.

Main achievements

The department organizes primary seed production for the production of high quality seeds of Marzhan, Kuban 3, Avangard, Aral 202, Tugisken 1, alfalfa and camel alfalfa varieties released in the region. Since 2008 the organisation of primary seed production of rice varieties of Russian selection Yantar, Novator and Leader has been carried out.

As an alternative to the current foreign (Russian) high-yielding, dense-stemmed (seed arrangement) varieties, new promising varieties KazNIIR-5, KazER-6, Aral 202, Aisaule, Salima, Syr Sului, Baikonur are being developed. These varieties differ from Russian varieties in grain coarseness, adaptability to the environment, resistance to salt and cold, rapid germination in the initial growth period, water deficit and deep water resistance.
